Additional financial support for students with fewer opportunities Erasmus


Additional financial support for students with fewer opportunities participating in mobility abroad in the Erasmus+ program


The goal of the equal opportunity grant is to provide additional financial support to international students with health, educational, cultural, social, economic, or geographical barriers to have a greater chance of participating in Erasmus+ mobility. The application must be sent to the email address erasmus@metropolitan.hu with the submission of the appropriate documents. Support cannot be applied for mobility that is in progress or has been completed.


You can apply if you have the following obstacles:

Health barriers

Barriers related to education and training systems

Socially vulnerable groups

Social barriers

Economic difficulties

Geographical barriers

Who can apply?

Students who apply for or have been awarded an academic, traineeship or short-term mobility program at the moment of application, and who have an active METU student status.

You are eligible with the following categories:

Health barriers

  • Disabled or chronically ill

 Obstacles related to education and training systems

  • Evening or correspondence students
  • Students receiving extra points as disadvantaged or highly disadvantaged students at the time of application

 Socially vulnerable groups

  • Students belonging to a recognized national or ethnic (e.g. Roma) minority in Hungary (only for Hungarian citizens)
  • Hungarian students across the border living as a minority in their country of origin
  • Students with refugee status recognized by the Hungarian state

•Social barriers

  • Students whose at least one parent/guardian does not have a secondary education
  • Students who are parents/guardians
  • Students belonging to or excluded from the state welfare system: students brought up in orphanages, residential homes or foster parents, or who received after-care care
  • Orphan/semi-orphan students
  • Students living in extended families (the applicant has 2 or more siblings living in the same household)

• Economic difficulties

  • Students receiving or having received a Bursa Hungarica Study Scholarship (only for Hungarian citizens)
  • Students who receive or have received a regular or extraordinary social stipend (only for Hungarian citizens)
  • HÖOK Mentor Program (former) beneficiary students (only for Hungarian citizens)
  • "Path to Higher Education" - "Path to Diploma" grantee students (only for Hungarian citizens)
  • (former) members of Roma vocational college (only for Hungarian citizens)
  • Students who receive basic school-starting support on a social basis at the start of their higher education
  • Students who received support in the Arany János Talent Care Program (only for Hungarian citizens)
  • Students who have experienced a sudden change in their social circumstances (e.g. the death of a dependent, unemployment, long-term illness, accident)
  • Students with a paid job who, during their studies or traineeship abroad, must expect a loss of salary during the period of mobility
  • Students participating in self-funded training at the time of application

• Geographical barriers

  • 105/2015. (IV.23.) Permanent residents of one of the beneficiary settlements defined by government decree (only for Hungarian citizens)

The amount of additional financial support

  • The amount of the fewer opportunities additional support is 250 euros per month, both in the case of study mobility and traineeships.
  • In the case of short-term study mobility, the amount that can be awarded is a one-time 100 euros (in the case of mobility between 1-14 days) or 150 euros (in the case of mobility between 15-30 days).
  • The "equal opportunities support" can be applied for at the same time as the "Additional financial support for disabled or chronically ill students". In this case, the rules for additional financial support for disabled or chronically ill students apply to the portion above 250 euros, which can be found HERE

How to apply

The application is possible in two periods, similar to the application for academic and traineeship mobility. The start and end dates of the application periods are determined by the Tempus Public Foundation. In the spring period, you can apply for additional support for autumn mobility, and in the autumn period for spring mobility. The application can be submitted for both academic and professional mobility.

The application must be submitted to the institutional Erasmus coordinator of the Budapest Metropolitan University, via email to the email address: erasmus@metropolitan.hu

Documents to be submitted:

▪ Electronic version of the fully completed individual application form (xlsx file)

▪ A signed (digitally or printed and scanned) version of the mandatory supporting document(s)

▪ The signed (PDF version of the excel form signed, scanned) version of the individual application form

A valid application can only be submitted on the specified application form together with the mandatory annexes.

If the applicant is entitled to more than one of the listed aspects, he/she can indicate this, but it is sufficient to prove only one of them in order to establish eligibility for additional support.

Application deadline

The start and end dates of the application periods are determined by the Tempus Public Foundation. Evaluation of applications, decision-making process

The METU International Coordination Office evaluates applications that are submitted by the deadline based on the eligibility grouping that forms the basis of the evaluation. If it is necessary to rank within each group, the International Office also considers individual aspects during the assessment. The evaluation is administered on an evaluation sheet. The reviews are evaluated and approved by the METU International Committee.

Applicants will be notified in writing of the selection results.

Applications are evaluated by the sending higher education institution. In case of over-application of the available budget, the applicant reserves the right to immediately suspend the application, change the application criteria or reject the application.
