The Budapest Metropolitan University's Faculty of Arts and Creative Industries is the host of the international exhibition that opens on October 4 at the Artus Studio.

In its first international venue outside of the United States, the Design for the Common Good Network, Metropolitan State University of Denver, and Budapest Metropolitan University Faculty of Art and Creative Industries are pleased to present the Design for the Common Good International Exhibition, a curated collection of over thirty network-nominated, peer-reviewed, and/or curator-invited public interest design projects from six continents and twenty-three countries.

Exhibition projects exemplify the way communities, organizations, teams of designers, architects, landscape architects, planners, and more are creating positive change together from the ground up. These typically localized scale-appropriate efforts are transformative in the places where they matter most—settings where there is a distinct call to action, a needed response to critical issues affecting people and their ability to live life at its fullest. In this way, the term “public interest design” refers to a practice that champions a community-driven approach in the design of buildings, environments, products, and systems. It is a practice that promotes growing knowledge, evolving processes, and activating meaningful engagement while tackling complex, multi-layered issues. Prioritizing community vision and supported by a range of diverse stakeholders, this practice advocates for mutual inclusivity where understanding and growth is achieved through education, research, and evaluation of design outcomes.

An embodiment of public interest design, the exhibition showcases work designed collaboratively with communities to create opportunity and solutions from within. As a result, these projects respond to often mutually persistent social, economic, and environmental challenges at a variety of local-to-global scales providing valuable lessons, take-aways, and best practices.

The exhibition and related programs will also be part of the Budapest Design Week program. Detailed information on the programs related to the exhibition will be provided later.
