25th Sarajevo Film Festival
The Sarajevo Film Festival, celebrating its 25th anniversary, was organized between August 16-23. Six Hungarian films were selected to compete for the Sarajevo Heart Prize in various competition programs. One of the six works is a diploma film directed by Katalin Moldova call "As up to now.” Our Professor, László Csáki’s animation ‘Blue Pelican,’ was in the program.
Katalin, Motion Picture Artist, graduated in 2017 with a Master's degree. Her diploma film was invited to the 72nd Cannes Film Festival Cinéfondation selection, which features the best of film universities, and was awarded the 1st prize at the 6th Savaria Film Festival Short Film category.
The 24-minute work is an adaptation of Krisztina Tóth's short story "As up to now." The artist chose this piece because it touched on several topics that concerned her, such as the mother-daughter relationship or the notion of hope, which is also strongly present in the short story.
The elderly, single Margaret goes to the hospital with her daughter, Judit, with whom she has been long separated. The examination reveals that Margit has severe skin cancer because Margaret does not hear well anymore; only Judit understands the diagnosis. She can't stay with her mother because of her job and home duties, but she can't tell the truth to her. Margit then goes alone for treatments. After these initial difficulties, she likes this routine, as it gives her a calling and even her relationship with her daughter start changing.
