In my diploma work, I wrote about the transition period of 1989 in Hungary and the fate of printed graphics. Five interviews are in the focus of my thesis. I chose five artists who graduated from the College of Fine Arts. That was one of the reasons I chose them, and the other one was because they graduated from painting graphics like me. I was curious about their opinions and experiences, how they lived during that era. The carrier of the chosen artists began in the ‘90s. My thesis will present not only a chosen artist’s work but also other artists’ ones who had effects on the present art.
As a matter of fact, the artists during that era faced difficulties to find themselves in that period. But their art was not dependant on 1989. The chosen artists always connected with the actual art. To sum up, a lot of trends and effects arrived in Hungary after 1989. Before ‘89, there was a little information coming to us. Hungary changed economically and politically. Despite this fact after 1989 no unified art was formed in Hungary.
The harmful effects of socialism are social problems. Social problems turned up in art works. Social problems have stagnated in art. The change brought the use of new media with itself .
In my diploma work, I investigated how the transition period influenced art and artists and the printed graphics. The other part of my thesis is about a business plan. I will establish a phantom gallery. After I had finished the first part of my thesis, interviews made me think about a new idea. My business plan consists of a new gallery on the market. I will serve lots of opportunities, for example, for those who want to learn drawing, and I intend to provide exhibition opportunity and forum meetings. I will create a strong community with my phantom gallery.
