Application requirements

  • You must be a full-time, part-time, adjunct, or volunteer lecturer, or a full-time administrative staff member at Budapest Metropolitan University.
  • You must have the necessary language skills for the planned teaching or participation in training (C1 for teaching mobility; B2 for training mobility).
  • Your team leader/supervisor must approve your participation in the mobility – you need to discuss this independently before applying.
  • To support as many participants as possible, we generally support mobilities lasting 5 working days, and Erasmus grant can only be awarded once per semester.
  • IMPORTANT: To ensure the efficient use of grant resources and to diversify mobilities, it is recommended to implement 2 mobilities with the same partner per semester/type of mobility. We recommend consulting with the staff of the International Coordination Office about the choice of location before applying. They can inform you about the availability of the institutions you wish to visit.
  • Weekend days – except in special justified cases – are not accepted as activity days; weekend days can only be supported if the professional program falls on a weekend and this can be proven.

Types of staff mobilities

Teaching Mobility:

  • A minimum of 8 hours of teaching is required over 5 working days. If you spend more than 5 working days abroad, the required number of teaching hours increases proportionally.

Training and Staff Mobility:

  • This includes activities such as building relationships, learning about the roles and structures at other universities, gaining experience, identifying best practices, job shadowing, etc.
  • As a lecturer, you also have the opportunity to participate in training mobility, in which case you are not required to teach during your visit.

IMPORTANT: Participation in conferences is not supported by the Erasmus+ program.

Where can you apply?

  • Erasmus funding is primarily focused on activities within Europe. In other cases, we will issue a separate call for applications.
  • If you have intention to apply for mobility outside of Europe, please get in touch with us at erasmus@metropolitan.hu, and we will inform you about the available opportunities.
  • Teaching activities can only be carried out at METU’s European partner universities. Additionally, we recommend visiting the Teaching Mobility page.
  • For training activities, you can choose from the following options:Training partners

A) You can contact any of METU’s nearly 200 European partner universities: browse this page to find the most suitable university. You will need to individually agree on the professional content and timing of the visit.

B) Participation in International Staff Weeks, which you can explore here: Staff Mobility and recent call for applications to Staff Weeks are also disseminated on METU Intranet.  These are usually one-week-long events organized around various professional topics, offering networking opportunities, participating in cultural programs, and expanding your knowledge. This is an international site, so you’ll also meet many participants with similar interests. This option is particularly interesting for staff, but is also available to lecturers.

C) Based on an individual agreement with any higher education institution that holds an ECHE (European Charter for Higher Education).

  • It is important to note that in the case of individual contact, coordination with the host institution and exchanging emails may take longer. Additionally, the host institution may not have the capacity to accommodate staff. Please consider these factors when planning your travel dates.

Travel support and green travel

The amount of travel support depends on the distance to the host institution. The calculation is always based on the distance determined by the official Erasmus Distance Calculator. The amount is applied as an average support, not applied per direction.

New travel support rates (for mobilities funded by the 2024 Erasmus financial framework)

  • Higher travel support is available for green travel.
  • Higher travel support is provided to those who travel to and from the destination country using a more sustainable form of transportation rather than flying. Examples of green travel include trains, buses, and car-sharing (using a personal car alone is not acceptable). If you apply for green travel, your tickets must be presented, and a legal declaration must be completed before the mobility.

General principles regarding green travel:

  • Green travel includes trains, buses, car-sharing, and bicycles (boats, airplanes, and electric cars are NOT considered green travel).
  • Green travel support can only be provided if more than half of the journey is made using sustainable transportation. One-way green travel is not considered sufficient to qualify as green travel.
  • Travelers can prove their mode of travel with travel documents, or in the absence of these (e.g., when traveling by car), with a legal declaration. In the legal declaration, it is recommended to list the names of fellow passengers in the remarks section when car-sharing.

Starting from 2024, the signed (legal) declaration by the person receiving travel support will serve as proof of documentation.

Living allowance

  • The living allowance is provided for the days spent working abroad and must be certified with the Certificate of Attendance.
  • Additionally, we provide 2 days of travel allowance for the day before the first working day and the day after the last working day abroad. You are free to arrive earlier or leave later, but no additional days will be supported via Erasmus grant.
  • To support as many participants as possible, we generally fund mobilities lasting 5 working days, and there is a possibility to apply for only one mobility per semester.
  • Please note that Erasmus funding is only a contribution to the costs of your travel, and it may not cover all your expenses.
  • The allowance can be used free, and you are not required to account for it or submit receipts.
  • If there is a participation fee (e.g., workshop fee), the allowance contributes to this cost as well, but we cannot provide additional support for this (such fees are typically required for organized Staff Weeks).
  • If your visit is confirmed, you can start booking accommodation and purchasing airline tickets even before the allowance is disbursed. However, please be aware that in the event of a cancellation not due to force majeure, we are unable to reimburse any expenses incurred.
  • In case your trip is canceled or interrupted due to force majeure, please immediately consult with our staff at erasmus@metropolitan.hu
